Which method of hair removal is best for you?

There are many methods of removing problem hair on the face and body; however it is important to choose a method that doesn’t negatively affect your skin, stimulate more hair growth or cause ingrown hair.

While shaving, plucking and using depilatory creams are quick, easy and may seem harmless, they are all temporary and you may be facing quick regrowth and hair stimulation, while causing damage and discolouration on the skin.

For long term visible results, Exclusively Beauty has solutions for removing unwanted hair safely and professionally, leaving you with silky smooth skin.

Waxing

Waxing is a method of hair removal that has been practiced for centuries. It removes the hair from the root, leaving skin feeling smooth and hair free for up to 5 weeks. As opposed to other temporary methods of hair removal, waxing allows the cycle of hair growth to be stabilised as all the hair is removed at the same time. Over time, waxing leads to hair growth becoming softer and can even minimise the regrowth in the area being waxed.

Professional waxing is suitable for all skin types, and is gentle enough for sensitive skin. We use the best quality strip and hot waxes to deliver long lasting and safe results.

For best results waxing is recommended every 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the area treated.

IPL

Intense Pulse Light is a fast, convenient and effective method of permanent hair reduction. IPL is suitable for all skin types and gentle enough to use on sensitive skin and also darker skin tones, as opposed to some laser treatments. IPL produces a beam of light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles, which is then converted to heat which destroys the hair follicle and disables the cells responsible for hair regrowth. Any ingrown hair present in the skin can be eliminated with IPL treatments, while it also prevents new formation of ingrown hair during treatments. IPL also effectively minimises any pigmentation in the area being treated during hair removal treatments, leaving an even skin tone.

Before IPL treatments, it is recommended to shave any large areas on the body and avoid any waxing or tweezing as this removes the root of the hair. After the treatment it is necessary to wear sun protection to avoid sun damage on the treated area.

Intense Pulse Light can be used to treat hair on the face and body for permanent hair reduction with fast and effective results. For best results 6 to 10 sessions of IPL are needed, which are spaced out over 4 weeks, with follow up sessions every 3 months for maintenance.

The IPL treatments include optional numbing cream application at the clinic for free.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal which is also able to treat all hair types including grey, blonde and red hair. An electric current is applied with a fine needle called a filament, into each hair follicle, which releases heat and creates galvanic lye to permanently destroy the root and separates the follicle wall resulting in permanent hair removal. The Blend, Thermolysis or Galvanic methods are utilised to create a treatment that is best suitable for your skin and hair type. Electrolysis is also effective for managing the effects of hypertrichosis and hirsutism.

Prior to electrolysis treatments, it is best to avoid waxing or tweezing, as this removes the root of the hair. Trimming or shaving is recommended in between sessions, allowing a few days before each session for the hair to grow to approximately 1mm of length during treatment.

As hair grows in different cycles and has stages of growing, resting and shedding, electrolysis requires multiple sessions to treat each individual hair in the area desired to achieve the best results.

Treatments every 2 to 4 weeks are recommended, depending on the targeted area and hair growth.

Although Electrolysis can be uncomfortable, the sensation of the treatment can be minimised with a numbing cream, which is applied before each session if required.

The electrolysis treatments include the needle and optional numbing cream application at the clinic for free.

IMPORTANT

If taking the acne medication ROACCUTANE, please avoid all hair removal treatments as this strong medication stops the production of sebum in the skin, making the skin sensitive and vulnerable to scarring. All hair removal treatments should be avoided for at least six months after the use of the ROACCUTANE.

For best results, regularly exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells and moisturise the skin. This prevents the formation of ingrown hairs and improves the skin condition and hair removal results.
